Building a list has many variables, but if do not get your niche audience to subscribe to your email list in the first place, everything else is irrelevant.
There are many ways to entice your potential subscribers to your list, but they all invariably come with the tag “Free’ in front of it. This is the simplest way of building a list; create or find something of value and give it away through your squeeze page. It does not matter what you offer, as long as it is relevant to your niche and of value to the end user. I know I am stating the obvious here, but there is no point offering a free report on ‘Dog Walking’ if your target niche is ‘Weight Loss’?
Creating something to give away is a lot simpler than you might imagine, don’t be overawed by the prospect. There several different forms of giveaways; reports, videos, ebooks, mini courses, software, templates etc. Just keep it relevant.
2 ways of building a list with a free report
I am going to focus on the most common form and that is the ‘Free Report’, this is the easiest to assemble and can be done very quickly. All you require is anything form 5-20 pages.
You have 2 options really; the first is to write the report yourself. If you are an expert in your chosen niche, this should not be too hard for you to do for obvious reasons, but, if you do not have the knowledge base, then you need to find material relating to your subject online and use this as reference for your report. The best way to achieve this, is to search for some great PLR material from the web, as you can use this without fear of infringing on someone else’s copyright. You can then cut & paste relevant material from different sources and fashion a report. You should definitely write the report into your own words. As you need to give it a personality and flow. If you are looking to offer value, then a simple cut & paste job is not going to cut the mustard.
Freelancers help when building a list
The second is to outsource it to a freelancer, there are a ton of writers out there willing to do the report for you. These are easy to find and relatively cheap, but bear in mind you get what you pay for? Check the following sites – there are many more – to find your freelancer:
When you find a site you like, you can simply post your job description and wait for bids to come in from interested writers. Make sure you give a detailed description of what you require from the job.
You will need an ecover as well, if you have Photoshop great, or for free alternatives there is www.gimp.org or www.sumopaint.com. You could also freelance it with your report for a few dollars more.
Once you have your report done, you should create a link back to your site in the footer and see if you can fit any affilaite links into the content. When you allow the report to be given away by anybody, this creates a viral effect and is a brilliant way of building a list, it is also a smart way of making money from your report.
All you need to do now is put it into a PDF format, download it to your site and link it to your squeeze page and you are on your way to building a list.
